Nokia Lumia Denim update detailed

Following on from the recent Lumia Cyan update, Nokia has announced the incoming Lumia Denim update.

Lumia Denim combines the enhancements introduced with the latest Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1 with some brand new Lumia smartphone experiences.

To start off with, Cortana is coming to the UK and China in beta, which is something that was announced with Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1.

You’ll also be able to take advangtage of Windows Phone Live Folders. To create one, just hold and drag an app over another to create a Start Screen folder. Those folders can then be renamed and customised.

Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1 also introduced Apps Corner, where you can create a customised Start screen just for specific apps or games.

What’s more interesting for Lumia handset owners are the Nokia specific features coming with Lumia Denim.

Nokia Camera is being done away with in favour of Lumia Camera. This new camera is a lot faster and more intuitive to use than the previous iteration. Plus, the pocket to capture speeds have been improved meaning you don’t have to miss those crucial shots.

Dependant on the phone you’ve got, you can take advantage of recording 4K quality video footage at 24fps. Each frame is at 8.3-megapixels, so you can take individual shots from your videos too.

Auto HDR and Dynamic Flash functionality has also been added, meaning you can shoot first and adjust the setting later for the best image.

Similar to the “OK Google” command for Google Now, Cortana can be used from the lock screen via the “Hey Cortana” voice command.

The Lumia Denim upgrade will come as standard on the new Lumia 830, Lumia 730, Lumia 735 and other Lumia phones will get the update in Q4 2014.
