Nokia Lumia 620 launched as entry-level Windows 8 handset

Nokia has launched the Nokia Lumia 620 as its most affordable Windows Phone 8 smartphone, with the handset lining up alongside the flagship Nokia Lumia 920 and Nokia Lumia 820.

Claimed to wield a youthful appeal, the Nokia Lumia 620 is bold and colourful in design but still offers a 1GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor.

“We continue to execute on our strategy to reach new audiences and new markets,” said Jo Harlow, Nokia Smart Devices’ Executive Vice President. “With its innovative design, the latest Windows Phone 8 software and signature experiences from Nokia, like Nokia lenses, Nokia Maps and Nokia Music, the Nokia Lumia 620 is a highly competitive smartphone at this price point.”

Nokia Lumia 620 Specs
Powered by a 1GHz dual-core  Qualcomm SnapDragon S4 processor, the Nokia Lumia 620 features the full Windows Phone 8 OS and 512GB RAM. Further bolstering the Nokia Lumia 620 specs sheet, the handset has a 3.8-inch 800 x 400p resolution TFT WVGA touchscreen with ClearBlack display giving clear and bright images.

Within its compact and colourful body, the Nokia Lumia 620 hosts a 5-megapixel rear-mounted camera and VGA front-facing camera with several Windows Phone 8 OS camera features. These include Cinemagraph to add simple animations to still shots and Smart Shoot which creates a composite image from several frames.

Maps and location functions are aplenty in the Nokia Lumia 620, with Nokia Maps, Nokia Drive and Nokia Transport all making appearances on the brightly-coloured handset.  The Nokia City Lens app that gives users information on their current location using augmented reality features via the camera viewfind is also included with the Nokia Lumia 620 from the outset.

Boasting full Window Phone 8 features such as a customisable Start Screen and Windows Live Tiles, People Hub, the unique Me Tile, Xbox Live and Microsoft Office, the Nokia Lumia 620 also has NFC support.

The handset is offering 8GB of internal storage, expandable via MicroSD card to 64GB coupled with 7GB of free Microsoft SkyDrive storage.

Nokia Lumia 620 Release Date and Price
The Nokia Lumia 620 release date on O2 is today, priced at £149.99 on a PAYG tariff or free from £18.50 per month on contract. O2 are offering a free coloured case with every new device.

Three and Virgin will also be stocking the Nokia Lumia 620 with their own coloured case deals, rumoured to cost an additional £20. Neither of these network providers has set a release date.

Vodafone will launch the Nokia Lumia 620 from February 6, with tariffs and prices yet to be announced.

Cases come in a wide variety of colour options, including lime green, magenta, yellow, cyan, the classic white and black, and what can only be described as hi-vis orange.
