Nokia has confirmed that its Windows Phone 8 handsets, the Nokia Lumia 620, Lumia 820 and Lumia 920, will be getting a firmware update.

With the update rolling out worldwide from today, all three of the Nokia Lumia Windows Phone 8 smartphones will be receiving the firmware upgrade “over the coming weeks”.

The Finnish smartphone manufacturer will improve the automatic display brightness adjustment, fix the intermittent screen blanking that occurs during some phone calls and bring further stability and performance improvements to the Nokia Lumia 920 and Nokia Lumia 820.

The Nokia Lumia 620, which will finally receive its 1308 firmware update originally announced in March, will receive a much wider range of improvements. The successful entry-level Windows Phone 8 handset will have better voice quality with Bluetooth headsets, enhanced camera performance with correct exposure settings in bright conditions and improved touch screen functions, including corrections to the multi-touch actions.

Nokia has also confirmed that the Nokia Lumia 620 will benefit from “various improvements to system stability, performance, and usability.”

The firmware update won’t affect the Windows Phone 8 operating system, but will bring improvements to the Nokia Lumia range’s usability.

Ubergizmo has already heard from Nokia Lumia 620 users in countries such as Malaysia, India and Germany that they have had access to the firmware patch already.

Nokia Lumia 920, Nokia Lumia 820 and Nokia Lumia 620 owners will have to wait until the update notification appears on their handset’s screen, which Nokia has said will happen sometime “over the coming weeks”. Users may be able to force the update to come a little quicker by tapping the Phone Update option in the setting menu.
