Microsoft has confirmed that there will be no Xbox One showcase at Tokyo Game Show 2015.
The company has announced that it will not be attending this year’s TGS event in September.
Although Microsoft won’t be holding any press conferences, Xbox One games will be making an appearance at the event.
There’s also a possibility that the company may hold a private event before the Tokyo Game Show begins – even if it runs close to Gamescom.
Rumours suggest that Microsoft may be withdrawing from the TGS because of the Xbox One’s performance in the Japanese market.
In terms of sales, the Xbox One is the worst-performing console for Microsoft, with Takeshi Sensui resigning as head of Xbox Japan as a result.
It may well be that Microsoft has given up on further pushing its latest gaming console in Japan, instead choosing to focus on markets were the Xbox One is selling well, such as the UK and the US.

Microsoft has hinted that it has other plans in mind instead of the TGS, leading to speculation that it may hold a private event of its own.
The next major show for Microsoft is Gamescom in early August, where the company will exhibit new Xbox One exclusives such as Scalebound and ReCore.
“During our E3 2015 Xbox Briefing, we shared the first part of our vision for the future of Xbox gaming,” explained Xbox in a blog post. “That will continue when the Xbox Team takes the stage the evening before Gamescom officially kicks off to share the latest on the games coming to Xbox One, including highly anticipated titles like Scalebound, Quantum Break and Crackdown.”
“We’ll take a closer look at those and other upcoming games, as well as share some exciting announcements.”
