Nintendo may not be revealing any NX or mobile gaming plans at E3 2015, but the company’s festivities next month will include a return of the famous Nintendo World Championships tournament.
The competition, which last took place in 1990, is returning after an absence of a quarter of a century.
Starting May 30, gamers will be able to enter qualifying tournaments at select Best Buy stores ahead of the finals at the iconic Nokia Theater in Los Angels on June 14.
The finals will feature a multi-round gaming competition, although it’s unclear which games and formats Nintendo will line up for competitors.
Fans in LA will be able to attend, but the tournament will be streamed online.
In a news release, the company wrote: "On May 30, select Best Buy locations in major cities around the country will host qualifying tournaments for the Nintendo World Championships, which were last seen in 1990. The winners from each regional event, plus competitors invited by Nintendo, will meet on June 14, at the NOKIA Theatre L.A. LIVE in Los Angeles for a multi-round Nintendo game competition. In the end, one player will be crowned the 2015 Nintendo World Champion. Fans in Los Angeles will have the opportunity to attend the tournament, while others can watch online. More details about the qualifying tournaments will be shared in the coming weeks."

Elsewhere, during E3 2015, the company will be holding a Nintendo Digital Event on June 16, rather than a press conference. It will be hosting live streams from E3 thought the day.
Given Nintendo is adamant about holding off on announcing more about its NX console and mobile gaming plans, the absence of a press conference is no surprise.
