Nintendo NX launch: What does Ninty skipping Paris Games Week tell us?

Nintendo has confirmed it will not be showcasing its line up at the Paris Games Week show, an event tipped as a possibility for the NX console launch.

A Nintendo spokesperson said the event, taking place at the end of October, didn’t fit into the company’s plans

The spokesperson told JeuxVideo: “Every year, Nintendo looks for the best ways and opportunities to let fans try out its games. This year, Nintendo chose to skip the Paris Games Week, because it did not fit in the [company’s] annual plans.”

It always seemed likely Nintendo would hold its own event, rather than reveal the NX at a show like PGW.

OPINION: Nintendo NX leaks offer more questions than answers

However, skipping an expo it had attended in years past, could indicate Nintendo has plans to make an announcement within that timeframe.

The company is said to be releasing the NX console before the end of March next year, but we’re yet to hear the company’s plans for the reveal.

It’s also entirely possible Nintendo will wait until much closer to the release window before making an announcement.

Given the poor messaging and long delay in marquee games, which blighted the reveal of the Wii U, it’s understandable Ninty is taking its time over this one.

As Nintendo Life points out, this could simply mean the Japanese giant is saving all of its promotional budget for the big launch, rather than splashing the cash on PGW.
