Nintendo announces a bunch of new 3DS games

Nintendo has taken everyone by surprise again by announcing a spate of forthcoming 3DS releases.

While it's not quite as high on the surprise scale as Nintendo releasing on online shooter, the company's recent Nintendo Micro Direct video certainly came out of the blue.

It's a playful take on the company's usual event videos, showing a miniaturised Bill Trinen of Nintendo America announcing some new additions to the 3DS stable.

First up is Chibi-Robo: Zip Lash - a spin-off of the cult favourite Gamecube adventure coming in November. To accompany this side-scrolling platform puzzler, Nintendo is also launching a Chibi-Robo Amiibo.

Next up is Dr. Mario: Miracle Cure, a new version of the classic match-four block-dropping puzzler. Think Tetris, but with more drug references and an unlikely career change for everyone's favourite plumber. It's coming to the 3DS eShop on 11th June.

Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon has already been seen, but Nintendo granted another look at it this light RPG adventure spinoff here anyway.

The big announcement here was Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Quite a mouthful, that.

The game is for both 3DS and Wii U, and the trailer shows off the 100 metre sprint, rhythmic gymnastics, table tennis, football, and volleyball. There will also be platform-specific sports, like Rugby sevens on the Wii U and golf on the 3DS.

Nintendo also took this opportunity to mention the new level (Port Mackerel) and weapon (the NES Zapper-like N-Zap '85) that have just been added to Splatoon in the early hours of this morning. Frankly, it's taking all of our will power not to pack up for the day and boot up our Wii U.
