Nintendo 3DS sales have topped 2 million in the UK alone, with 2013 proving to be a successful year for the handheld console.
The sales figure combines purchases of the Nintendo 3DS, super-sized Nintendo 3DS XL and the newest Nintendo 2DS handheld intended to be the budget option of the three.
According to MCV, in the UK alone sales of all three has passed the 2 million milestone after a particularly successful year.
The 3DS and its family still hasn’t managed to equal the sales of the original Nintendo DS at the same point in its lifetime, the figure is still very impressive.
Handheld consoles have faced increased competition from smartphones and tablets in the mobile gaming market in recent years, but it seems there it still a market for dedicated handheld gaming consoles.
The Nintendo 3DS has been supported by a strong software line-up for 2013, which included Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Pokemon X & Y and Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds.
Nintendo has also backed these key titles with huge marketing campaigns, which has helped boost 3DS hardware sales.
Key titles arriving for the 3DS next year include Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright, Yoshi’s New Island and Kirby Triple Deluxe.
