Nikon offers free D600 shutter cleaning service following dust issues

Nikon has offered to replace any Nikon D600 shutters affected by dust issues for free.

The camera manufacturer has posted a special Technical Service Advisory page for D600 users affected by the dust collection on the DSLR’s sensor.

Several users have reported having issues with the gathering of dust on the sensor since the mid-range full-frame DLR was launched in September 2012.

“Some users of Nikon’s D600 D-SLR camera have reported the appearance of tiny spots on certain images”, said Nikon. “As part of its customer-service commitment, Nikon is providing a customer-service measure to reduce the potential impact of dust particles on images taken by its D600 D-SLR cameras.”

Although dirt acquisition isn’t uncommon with DSLR sensors, the D600 seems to accrue detritus more readily than users expected.

“It is a well-known fact that the presence of dust particles cannot be completely avoided when using a D-SLR camera even after normal sensor cleaning procedures, because of a number of factors including component moving at high speeds when images are taken, the use of interchangeable lenses, and the different environments in which a D-SLR camera may be used.”

However, to compensate for the issue, Nikon is offering a completely free cleaning service for anyone affected by the dust problems.

The free service includes the “inspection, cleaning and replacement of the shutter assembly and related parts of your camera, free of charge as well as the cost of shipping D600 cameras to Nikon and their return to customers.”

What’s also great is that even users with out of warranty D600 DSLRs can take advantage of the company’s free service.

Nikon introduced the Nikon D610 in October 2013, which offered near identical specs to the D600 but with a different shutter mechanism.
