Nikon 1 gets a waterproof and shockproof makeover to become the AW1
The Nikon 1 has been given an outdoorsy makeover, with new rugged features marking it out as the world’s first waterproof interchangeable lens camera.
Dubbed the Nikon 1 AW1, the remodelled camera is capable of standing up to being submerged under 15 metres as well as featuring shockproof and freeze-proof capabilities which mean it can withstand drops from 2 metres and temperatures down as far as minus 10 Celsius.

Aside from its waterproof party piece, the Nikon 1 AW1 features a range of premium components, with the interchangeable lens camera benefitting from a 14.2-megapixel CX-format CMOS sensor.
Capable of tackling low-light shooting conditions with an integrated ISO range up to 6400, the Nikon 1 AW1 features list sees the camera powered by Nikon’s EXPEED 3A dual-processing engine. With a burst mode of 60fps shooting with a fixed-point autofocus, the Nikon 1 AW1 adds 1080p Full HD video recording capabilities.
With both stills and videos able to be captured underwater, the Nikon 1 AW1 sports rubber sealing on all ports and connections, while a double-locking battery compartment further aids the camera’s waterproof capabiltiies. A rear-mounted LCD display offers instant image playback.
Nikon 1 AW1 Release Date and Price
The Nikon 1 AW1 release date has been confirmed as October 10, with the camera specialist revealing the waterproof snapper will set you back a penny shy of £299.99.
Pair the Nikon 1 AW1 with an 11-27.5mm lens and the fee jumps to £749.99 while adding an additional 10mm lens bumps the Nikon 1 AW1 price up to £949.99.
