NFC-enabled Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini release date confirmed

With the world eagerly awaiting the Samsung Galaxy S4 release date, Korean handset manufacturer Samsung has revealed the new NFC-enabled Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini will launch later this month.

Sporting a design similar to that of the market leading Samsung Galaxy S3, the new NFC-enabled Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini will line up at retailers in the UK before the end of January, offering consumers the opportunity to make use of contactless payment tech on the go.

“NFC technology and the digital wallet started to gain significant traction in 2012, particularly in the run up to the Olympics,” Simon Stanford, Vice President, Telecommunications & Networks, Samsung UK and Ireland said. “It’s an exciting time in the mobile market watching the next phase of its evolution take shape, so we’re happy to announce that we are bringing these new experiences to our customers through our growing number of NFC-enabled devices.”

Asides from bringing NFC contactless communications tech to the mix, the new NFC-enabled Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini will play host to the exact same specification as the current Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini.

Lining up at 9.9mm thick and 120g in weight, the Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini lines up as a squat rendition of the full size Samsung Galaxy S3 with the reduced sized handset also featuring a diminished collection of specs, kicked off by a 1GHz Cortex A9 dual-core processor.

With 1GB of RAM, a 1500mAh lithium-ion battery and the option of 8GB and 16GB storage variations, both expandable via microSD, the NFC enabled Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini is a mid-market handset that is further bolstered by a 5-megapixel rear-mounted camera, Google’s Android 4.1 Jelly Bean OS and a 4-inch 800 x 480p capacitive Super AMOLED display.
