The sudden stock shortages of the Google Nexus 7 2 in the Google Play Store has teased an imminent Google Nexus 9 launch.
The Google Play Store both in the UK and the US is completely out of stock of the Google Nexus 7 2, hinting that a Nexus 9 launch could be just around the corner.
The 16GB and 32GB black models of the Nexus 7 (2013), 32GB LTE version and 32GB white edition of the tablet are all listed in the Google Play Devices store as “out of stock”.
Although consumers are advised to “check back soon” for increased stock, we have a feeling that there won’t be any more.
There’s been rumours of an 8.9-inch Nexus tablet doing the rounds for some time now, with the latest report stating it will be the codename Volantis slate currently being made by HTC.
According to reports, it will feature an 8.9-inch 2048 x 1440p resolution display, powered by a 64-bit Nvidia Tegra K1 processor – the same as found in the newly announced Nvidia Shield Tablet.
This will apparently be backed by 2GB of RAM and come with 16GB or 32GB of internal storage. There’s no word as to whether it will come with microSD expansion, but the Nexus 7 and Google Nexus 5 don’t, so don’t hold your breath.
Some reports suggest that the Nexus 9 could even feature the same zero gap aluminium construction as the HTC One M8 and will be just 7.9mm thick and weigh 418g.
However, others say it will look very similar to the Nexus 5, with its matte plastic body.
Previously it was thought that Google would unveil a new tablet in line with the Android L launch sometime in the autumn.
By the looks of the Nexus 7 stock shortages though, we might not be in for such a wait after all.
