Google Nexus 7 outsells Apple iPad in Japan

The Google Nexus 7 has outsold the Apple iPad in Japan, according to the country’s largest business daily Nikkei.

A report released on Thursday showed that the Google Nexus 7 has taken the top market share over not just the iPad Mini, but the entire range of Apple iPad tablets.

According to the survey carried out by market research firm BCN in December, the Google Nexus 7 had 44.4 per cent of the market in comparison to the iPad which came in at 40.1 per cent, knocking the Apple tablet off the top spot for the first time since its launch in 2010.

Based on the findings of the 2,400 consumer electronics stores surveyed in Japan, one of the biggest advantages the Google Nexus 7 has over the iPad collection is price. Costing roughly £60 less than the iPad Mini in the tech-mecca, the Google Nexus 7 is proving more appealing to the country’s digital device buyers.

Adding a level of uncertainty to the findings, the iPad Mini was suffering from stock shortages during the time when the survey was carried out, and could have affected the results, but it seems as though the appealing price of the Google Nexus 7 is winning out over Apple’s pricey pads.

The Nikkei article also reported that IDC Japan estimated nearly 3.6million tablets were sold in Japan during December, tripling the number sold the same time in 2011.
