Has this trailer just leaked the name of Nintendo’s next-gen console?
A trailer for RISE: Race the Future appears to confirm that Nintendo’s next major console will indeed be called the Nintendo NX, ahead of an expected launch event in late-2016/early-2017.
The screenshot above appears at the end of the clip, with a ‘Nintendo NX’ logo nestled between the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. You can watch the trailer in full below.

To the surprise of many, Nintendo has said that it won’t be teasing its next-gen NX console at E3 this year, but will rather give it a dedicated launch event – we’d expect this to take place in late-2016 or maybe in early-2017 around the time of CES.
So far, the company has only revealed that the NX will get a full consumer release in March 2017. Zelda is one of the confirmed launch titles, and the fact that the RISE developers have (accidentally or intentionally) leaked the new Nintendo’s name suggests that it too may be one of the first games to hit the console.
We’ve contacted Nintendo for comment and haven’t received a reply at time of writing.
Despite the appearance of the logo in the trailer, the ‘NX’ moniker may end up remaining the codename we previously assumed it was, as Nintendo Insider editor Alex Seedhouse points out on Twitter:

Other rumours suggest that the new device may be a console/handheld hybrid.
