Rejoice, elves, orcs, and nerd-folk: Blizzard has just announced the next World of Warcraft expansion.

The Activision-owned games studio unveiled World of Warcraft: Legion at an event at Gamescom in Germany yesterday.

The expansion follows on from last year’s Warlords of Draenor expansion, and includes tonnes of new features, including a new continent and hero class.

Check out Blizzard’s feature overview video:

The Legion expansion introduces a new continent called the Broken Isles, where players will search for the Tomb of Sargeras and fend off hordes of demons. It all sounds very Burning Crusade-esque.

What’s more, the level cap is – unsurprisingly – being kicked up to 110 from the current 100.

One of the more interesting new features is the introduction of a new hero class – the Demon Hunter.

The Demon Hunter is designed around Burning Crusade antagonist Illidan, and will be able to transform into various demonic figures.

Demon Hunters will be the second-ever hero class in World of Warcraft, following on from the release of Death Knights back in the Wrath of the Lich King expansion.

On that note, the hub city of WotLK, Dalaran, will be making a return in Legion as the floating capital moves down to the Broken Isles.

Other new features include Emerald Nightmare raids, new dungeons, new artifact weapons, and a Call of Duty-style prestige PvP ranking system.

Blizzard hasn’t offered up a World of Warcraft: Legion release date yet, but says that the beta test will begin “later this year”.
