New Windows 10 preview brings Uber to Cortana and unifies messaging
Microsoft has issued a new preview build of Windows 10 offering the first taste of a number of forthcoming features.
Build 10565, which rolls out to Windows Insiders in the fast ring today, features a new unified messaging app, which combines Skype messaging, voice and video calls, while also bringing notifications to the Action Centre.
In a post on the Windows blog Gabe Aul wrote: “As we’ve announced previously, Skype messaging, calling and video capabilities will come integrated into Windows 10 through the Messaging, Phone and Skype video universal Windows apps.”
Microsoft is also serving up updates to Cortana, including the ability to book an Uber ride directly from the personal assistant.
Aul added: “Cortana is able to intelligently understand your inked notes – setting reminders based on locations, times and numbers that she can understand from your digital annotations.”

Elsewhere, the Microsoft Edge browser also has a new Tab Preview mode, allowing users to hover over the respective tabs to see a preview. Favourites and Reading Lists will also be synced across multiple devices running Microsoft Edge.
Build 10565 also offers some aesthetic changes such as vibrant title bars, improved context menus and a host more tweaks and bug fixes. These changes are likely to come to fruition in the Threshold 2 update, which is expected to land in November.
