New WhatsApp update eases the pain of changing your number
WhatsApp is now making it easy to notify contacts when you change your phone number
The existing Change Number feature is designed to allow users to migrate their account info, chats, groups and settings when they make the switch.
However, the update rolling out in the latest Android beta (v2.18.97) goes a step further (via WABetaInfo).
It lets users choose whether they want to notify all contacts, those they chat with or to alert custom contacts to the change.
Once the new feature rolls out, users will be able to go to Settings > Account > Change number. Once they hit the ‘Next’ button, users can enter the old and new phone numbers to begin the migration process.
This will bring up the option to inform your pals you’ll be WhatsApping from a new phone number.
Once the friend has been notified, they’ll receive a message in the chat signifying the new number.
The update is expected to roll out to Android, iPhone and Windows Phone devices in the near future, but you can take the Android beta for a spin right now.
Users can simply browse to the WhatsApp beta Google Play page and become a tester.
The company writes: “WhatsApp Inc. has invited you to a testing program for an unreleased version of the WhatsApp Messenger app. As a tester, you’ll receive an update that includes a testing version of the WhatsApp Messenger app, which may also include unreleased versions of its instant app.”
