New Toshiba Excite Pure, Pro and Write tablets surface

Toshiba has unveiled three new 10.1-inch Android tables, the entry-level Toshiba Excite Pure and the high-end Excite Pro and Excite Write.

The Toshiba Excite Pure, pictured above, will cost just £249 and comes with an Nvidia Tegra 3 processor and a 1,280 x 800 resolution, 10.1-inch screen. It runs Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and includes microUSB, microSD and Micro HDMI connections.

All three tablets are compatible with a specially designed folio keyboard case, too, though it doesn’t come as standard.

The Excite Pro (above) is Toshiba’s new top-of-the-range Android tablet. It too has a 10.1-inch screen, but with a retina-esque 2,560 x 1,600 resolution. Where the Excite Pure makes do with Tegra 3, the Excite Pro comes with an Nvidia Tegra 4 chip. The Excite Pro price is £349, just a shade less than a 16GB iPad 4, although like the Pure it has miniture SD, USB and HDMI ports for enhanced connectivity.

The Toshiba Excite Write, meanwhile, is identical to the Excite Pro but adds a digitiser pen and custom Toshiba Trunote app. It’s akin to the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1, and will cost £499 from launch.

Interestingly, the Excite Pro and Write both support 802.11ac Wi-Fi, the new upcoming faster standard of Wi-Fi that will take over from 802.11n in future.
