New Tomb Raider film casts Lara Croft

Academy Award Winner Alicia Vikander will play the British archaeologist in the upcoming reboot, according to Hollywood Reporter.

The news has since has been shared by GK Films, the company producing the film alongside MGM.

Known for her Oscar winning performance in The Danish Girl and terrifying us in sci-fi thriller Ex Machina, Vikander is a great choice for the role.

The film’s release date is yet to be confirmed, but we do know that Roar Uthaug will be directing, with some of his recent films being The Wave (2015) and Escape (2012).

Alicia Vikander’s casting may come as a surprise to some following rumours that Daisy Ridley was approached regarding the role.

Known as Rey in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Ridley would have made an excellent Lara Croft.
