A brand new Rock Band game could be coming to the Xbox One and PS4.
According to a new report, Harmonix is developing a new Rock Band title for the latest batch of consoles.
The information comes via “a person familiar with the plan” speaking to Bloomberg, who wished to remain anonymous.
They say Harmonix Music Systems Inc is creating the first new Rock Band game since 2012, especially for the Xbox One and PS4.
The virtual band genre, including Rock Band and Guitar Hero, grew to popularity last decade. Such success caused Viacom Inc’s MTV unit to actually buy Harmonix in 2006 for $175 million (£114 million).
However, thanks to the casual gamer market shifting towards mobile titles, the band game genre has been silent for a number of year.
In fact, Harmonix was sold to investment firm Columbus Nova LLC in 2010.

Activision Blizzard hasn’t released a Guitar Hero game since 2010 either, with the entire unit disbanded a year later.
However, this isn’t the first rumour of a potential Rock Band return. Harmonix reignited the Rock Band flames by releasing some DLC for Rock Band 3 after a 21 month break.
But it was the titles of the chosen songs included in the small DLC that really got tongues wagging – Rize of the Fenix by Tenacious D and Back to the Shack by Weezer.
Both of those titles hint at rising and returning, which could be a huge hint from Harmonix itself.
If Rock Band does make a return, the plastic instrument games will have compete with the likes of Skylanders: Trap Team, Disney Infinity 2.0 and Nintendo’s new amiibo range for retail floor space.
