New PS4 games to be unveiled at Gamescom

Sony has teased further next-generation announcements for Gamescom 2013, with new PS4 games to be unveiled at the Cologne based show.

Formally unveiled back in February, the PS4 is set to hit retailers later this year. While a selection of PS4 games were showcased alongside the next-generation console at launch, Sony has confirmed new titles for the next-generation gamer will be announced in August.

“We very consciously at the [PS4 reveal] event in New York on February 20 showed a lot of software, a lot of first party software,” Sony Computer Entertainment Europe CEO Jim Ryan said in a recent interview. “What we did at E3 was really show some updates to those games and introduce The Order 1886.”

Suggesting that there is still much more to come, Ryan added: “There’s a lot [of games] coming. I’m sure you heard from Shuhei [Yoshida, president of Sony Worldwide Studios] that he has, just from his studios, 30 games in development. 20 are going to ship within the first year of the console’s life and of those 12 are new IPs, so there’s a lot going on, it’s just that we need to keep stuff back. We’ve got Gamescom for us Europeans and we need something to show at Gamescom.

Far from the only big player to be working up to a Gamescom reveal, Microsoft and Nintendo, both of which missed last year’s show, are down to attend with new launches and unveilings in mind.

On top of this, a selection of leading publishers are set to showcase new titles during the August 21 to 25 conference with EA, Ubisoft, Konami and Bethesda all host stands.

PS4 Features
With Sony confirming  a £349 PS4 price earlier this month, the PS3 follow-on is lining up to be a dominant force on the next-gen gaming scene.

Pairing an eight-core processor with 8GB of RAM and a 500GB harddrive, the PS4 features list sees a new PlayStation Eye camera capable of being attached and bringing a raft of motion gaming options into the mix.

Although a finalised PS4 release date is yet to be announced, Sony has confirmed that the console will hit retailers during the “2013 holiday season.”
