Netflix and Sky set to join forces to launch the ultimate UK TV bundle
Two of the world’s TV titans are set to unite as Netflix and Sky have announced a new partnership that will see the popular streaming service offered as part of a new Sky Q package.
The all-new bundle will only be available to those with a Sky Q box – time to upgrade, Sky+ HD owners – and will see Netflix content like Stranger Things and The Crown offered via the Sky platform, where it will sit alongside Sky’s own shows and channels, like Game of Thrones home Sky Atlantic.
Netflix is set to land on Sky in the “coming year,” according to the company, with pricing also still to be confirmed.
Reed Hastings, Netflix’s CEO, commented in a statement:
“We are delighted to partner with Sky to bring the latest technologies and great stories under the same roof. With this innovative new partnership and Netflix’s stellar line up of original content from across the world, Sky’s customers will be able to seamlessly access and enjoy all the best entertainment in one place.”
One of the best bits is that the integration with Sky Q will mean you’re able to voice search for Netflix shows using your Sky remote. We were quick to dismiss this functionality at launch as a bit of a gimmick but have been surprised by how much we actually use it.
Additionally, Netflix will also be made available as a standalone app on Sky’s contract-free NOW TV streaming service.
