New leaked shots give us our first real look at the Huawei Mate 9

UPDATE: Online tipster and Editor of NowhereElse Steve Hemmerstoffer has tweeted regarding today’s supposedly leaked images to say they are fake.

Hemmerstoffer claims the images are a photoshop of ZTE’s Axon 7 Max, and not actual photos of the Mate 9:

We’re pretty sure Hemmerstoffer is right on this one, based on the images he provides, but as with all these leaks, there’s never any way to know for sure until the company officially launches the phone.

Original story continues below:

This week will finally see the launch of the Huawei Mate 9, and we’ve already got a pretty good idea of what to expect, thanks to leaked renders.

Last week, prolific leaker Evan Blass gave us a look at both rumoured models of the upcoming handset, posting some detailed renders to his Twitter account.

But now, it looks like we’ve got our first real photos of the phone, thanks to Chinese site CNMO, which posted the following images of the device:

The phone is expected to arrive in two models, one flat-screen version codenamed Manhatten, and a curved screen model codenamed Long Island.

CNMO’s images appear to show the former, complete with fingerprint scanner and the long-rumoured dual camera setup  which is said to incoporate 20-megapixel and 12-megapixel sensors.

There’s also a dual-LED flash on the rear of the device, while the shot of the front shows Huawei’s Emotion UI running on the champagne gold version of the phone.

The Mate 9 is expected to debut with a Kirin 960 chipset and a 5.9-inch Full HD display, though there could be some differences between the flat-screen and curved-edge model.

Some have suggested the Long Island iteration will come with a Quad-HD screen along with the curved, Galaxy S7 Edge-esque, edges.

Other rumoured features include a USB Type-C port and Android 7.0 Nougat, with Blass’ previous leaks seeming to suggest the Manhatten model will come with a headphone jack, while the larger variant will not.

The latest spy shots are obviously not confirmed as legitimate, so take the leak with due caution, but we haven’t got long to wait until the phone officially debuts.

Huawei will be announcing the Mate 9 on November 3, so stay tuned for the latest this week.
