New iPhone 7 Home button borks the classic force reboot method

What’s the most essential feature on any iPhone? They cynical owner would say the ability to force restart the device when it inevitably plays up.

However, thanks to the new Home button on the iPhone 7 the method of holding down the home and power buttons to start afresh will no longer work.

The new Taptic Engine on the home button no longer recognizes your long presses in this circumstance. Thankfully, Apple has a replacement method in store, iMore reports.

iPhone 7 owners will now need to hold the power/display button and the volume down buttons until the Apple logo appears, in order to reboot their phone when all else fails.

This change also applies to users attempting to place their iPhone 7 into DFU mode (recovery mode).

While this method has changed, the method for taking screenshots remains exactly the same.

A simultaneous press of the power button and the new Home button will do the trick next time a teenage girl feels the need to screen grab what they think is a funny text message conversation with their friend and upload it to social media.
