The third-gen iPad, dubbed the “new” iPad, is selling much better than its predecessor according to both Apple and top UK retail group DSG, which houses the Currys and PC World high street chains.
Talking to Pocket-lint, an insider source said that sales of the new iPad are up 80 percent on those of the iPad 2 at PC World, and that sales “more than exceeded expectations.” Marry this to Apple senior vice president Philip Schiller’s statement that the new iPad launch has been the strongest yet and you can only conclude the 9.7in tab is going great guns.
The Tottenham Court Road branch of PC World sold an iPad every 20 seconds during the hour and a half after its midnight opening event. This is where those keenest to get their mitts on a new iPad early should have been, as it opened a full eight hours ahead of the London Apple Stores.
The third iPad improves upon its predecessor with a quad-core graphics chip, much larger battery and – frankly – a fantastic screen. With 1,536 x 2,048 pixels to its name, it offers more detail than a 1080p television with around 3.1 million pixels on-screen. The new iPad starts at £399 for the Wi-Fi only 16GB model.
