New iPad mini tipped to launch alongside iPad Air 2
Apple’s iPad Mini could be getting an upgrade at Apple’s event on Thursday, according to new reports.
An article from a Japanese Apple blog promises that the Cupertino firm will use the occasion to announce the Retina iPad Mini 3.
It’s already expected that Apple will show off a successor to the iPad Air, but iPad Mini rumours have been thin on the ground thus far.
The Mac Otakara blog also reckons Apple’s Smart Cover and Smart Case ranges are due for an update to ensure the fast-approaching tablets are fully compatible.
“The colour lineup of Smart Cover, colour line-up and design of the Smart Case also seems to have been slightly changed,” reads the site, courtesy of Google Translate.
Apple’s iPad Mini 2 is expected to ship with a TouchID fingerprint sensor, as first seen on the iPhone 5S, as well as the new A8 processor that debuted with the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.
The iPad Air 2, however, is expected to be a much more flashy affair, with an upgraded A8X processor, 2GB of RAM, a champagne-colour offering, and TouchID all tipped for inclusion.
Apple’s press event is set to take place in just two days’ time over in Cupertino, California, with a promise that the whole shindig will be live-streamed for your viewing pleasure.
Apple’s iPhone 6 launch event last month was also live-streamed, however buffering issues plagued the service meaning large swathes of online viewers couldn’t even get a look in.
Aside from the iPad Mini 3 and the iPad Air 2, we’re also expecting new Mac hardware updates and a definitive release date for the firm’s long-awaited OS X Yosemite.
