New iPad Pro and cheaper 9.7-inch iPad rumoured to join iPhone 9 in 2018

Apple reportedly has two new iPads in the works for 2018 – an updated iPad Pro and a refreshed 9.7-inch tablet. Here’s what we know so far including their rumoured release date and price.

That’s according to DigiTimes, which says Apple’s supply chain has started shipping components for the pair of new devices.

The new 2018 9.7-inch iPad is understood to be an updated version of the 2017 iPad 9.7-inch. It will likely pack upgraded internals, but it expected to land at a more affordable price point compared to previous iPads.

Right now, Apple’s cheapest iPad is officially priced at £319, so the Cupertino-based company could out a new sub-£300 tablet if it really wants to shake things up.

Apple’s second new iPad of the year is thought to be an iPad Pro refresh. Currently, there’s a 12.9-inch iPad Pro and a 10.5-inch iPad Pro in Apple’s lineup. It’s unclear which tablet is primed for the update, or if there will be an all-new ‘iPad Pro 3’ unveiled to complement the existing products.

New iPads 2018 Release Date: When do the new iPad Pro and 9.7-inch iPad come out?

The recent report from DigiTimes claims that the cheaper new 9.7-inch iPad will be revealed in Q2, which means it could launch at WWDC 2018. Apple’s annual developer conference looks like it will take place in early-June, so if the tablet breaks cover at the event, it should be released by the end of June.

The new iPad Pro is being tipped to launch in the second half of 2018, potentially alongside the iPhone 9 at Apple’s autumn launch event. That would mean it’s primed to be released some time in late-September or early-October, well in time for the holiday shopping season.

Expect pricing for the new iPad Pro to be fairly steep. Apple’s current crop of iPad Pros start at £619 and soar to £1119 for the top 512GB 12.9-inch model, to give you a rough idea.

That’s all we know right now, but stay tuned, as we’ll be updating this article with all the latest new iPad 2018 news and rumours as soon as they break.
