Apple’s assault on popular news aggregating apps, such as Flipboard and Pocket, has appeared in the latest iOS 9 developer beta.
The News app, which was announced at WWDC last month, is one of a host of new features in the third beta version of the new operating system.
According to reports on Wednesday, the app entices users to choose a variety of categories in order to populate a “For You” feed of stories from partner publishers.
Folks will also be able to add news sources via an Explore section that will offer suggested channels and topics, Apple Insider points out. The app will give users the chance to opt into a daily news digest email, something that wasn’t publicised at WWDC.

A surprising and exceptionally welcome new feature is the addition of a separate Screenshots album within the Photos app. On a lesser note, the traditional tone when Siri is activated has also been ditched in this beta.
The latest beta, which is likely to be the last before Apple opens up its test versions to the public this summer, also brings the Apple Music streaming service and Beats 1 radio via a new Music app.
iOS 9 will officially launch this autumn for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.
