New Google Daydream View Release Date

The only real leak we’ve seen so far comes courtesy of Droid Life, which claims that Google will use its October 4, 2017 product event to showcase the new Google Daydream View VR headset.

The event is primarily slated to host the Google Pixel 2 smartphone reveal, but it’s now looking likely that we’ll see a whole host of products launched – including a new virtual reality headset.

Of course, while Google has confirmed the event will take place, it’s refrained from detailing the agenda, so we’ll have to take all leaks with due caution for now.

New Google Daydream View Design, Specs and Features

Our Mobile Editor Max Parker gave the original Google Daydream View headset a respectable 4/5 score in our review, praising the headset’s comfortable and compact design, the wealth of available content, the ease of setup, and the fantastic remote.

Here’s his verdict: “If you have a compatible phone, a spare £69 and a yearning to get a first taste of VR then the Daydream is a must-buy. A comfortable, easy-to-use headset – it’s the next step in mobile VR.”

As such, we’ve got high hopes for the sequel. According to Droid Life, the new unit appears “less soft and potentially more rugged”, and will ship in Charcoal, Fog, and Coral colour options.

We’re also expecting to see the motion-sensitive controller making a return, which isn’t a surprise given its popularity last time around.

It’s not yet clear which phones will support the new headset, but we’d expect that all existing Daydream-compatible handsets – like the Samsung Galaxy S8 – will be included on the roster.

New Google Daydream View Price 2017

The original Google Daydream View headset price in at $79, but we’re expecting a marginal bump to $99 this time – as per the rumours, anyway.

Given the UK’s recent currency woes, we’d expect a similar hike; brace yourselves for either £89 or £99, we reckon.
