New Battlefield game coming 2016, EA confirms

EA Games has confirmed a brand new Battlefield game is coming in 2016.

During a recent investor call, EA Games’ CFO Blake Jorgensen revealed that there will be a 2016 release for the Battlefield series next year.

When asked about key future titles for the company, Jorgensen revealed a little of the EA Games’ release plans.

“What we’ve said is that our intention over the next couple of years is to have a first-person shooter as one of the core titles,” said Jorgensen. “This year it’s Star Wars: Battlefront. Next year, it’s another Battlefield title.”
This echoes what EA CEO Andrew Wilson said about a new Battlefield game back in October 2014.

“Battlefield 4 continues to add new players and engage existing fans a year after launch.”

“As a result of the extended services and content updates that we provide, it’s clear that players want to experience the games we’re delivering for longer periods of time. Looking into next year, we will ensure that our players have enough time between releases to fully explore the depth and innovation in our shooter titles.”

According to a tease from Jorgensen back in November 2014, next year’s Battlefield will return to its military-focused roots, unlike the cops-and-robbers Battlefield Hardline.

He said he had already seen the game at that time and that it is shaping up to be a “fun, new Battlefield.”

Star Wars: Battlefront is in development at DICE, the team behind the core Battlefield games.

During the earnings call, EA Games COO Peter Moore said Star Wars: Battlefront has seen “extremely strong pre-orders” and said Gamescom 2015 will be a “pivotal” moment for the game.

He said EA believes it will “see a tremendous response” from the announcements.
