New Apple TV to play nice with Bluetooth headphones too

The new Apple TV set-top box will support wireless headphones, reports have revealed.

Ahead of next month’s on-sale date, 9to5Mac (via Engadget) has learned that the boosted Bluetooth tech – which powers the wireless controller – will also stretch to headphones and audio equipment.

This means that those watching late-night movies can do so as loud as they like without disturbing the rest of the household.

It’ll also bring Bluetooth-powered speakers into play for those who don’t have the benefit of wired or AirPlay tech.

This functionality mirrors that offered by the Roku 3 and Amazon Fire TV set-top boxes.

According to the report, Apple is also adding a new “night mode” that will lower the volume on everything but voices. That might be especially handy for watching Michael Bay action movies.

Apple still hasn’t revealed exactly when the revamped, Siri-powered unit will go on sale – beyond the late October time-frame.

The device, running tvOS and packing an enhanced touch- and motion-sensing remote, will be priced at $149 for a 16GB box and $199 for a 32GB model.
