New Apple TV tipped for October 23 release date

Ahead of Apple’s upcoming October 22 launch event, retailer Amazon has hinted that a new Apple TV unit will be released next week.

With the iPad 5 and iPad mini 2 widely expected to be the stars of next Tuesday’s Apple event, it is now believed that a revised Apple TV could also be set to enter the realms of reality, with the internet connected TV provider seemingly being readied for an in-store release the day after launch.

With a revised Apple TV having long been rumoured for release, the French and German arms of online retailer Amazon are currently listing the existing Apple TV box as out of stock. While not referencing a new model specifically, the latest reports have claimed stock will be available just one day after Apple unveils new products. Amazon UK still has stock of the existing Apple TV.

Earlier this week Apple issued invites to an October 22 launch event, teasingly stating: “We still have a lot to cover.”

While Apple has long been mooted to be working on its own-branded television sets, it is not expected that an Apple iTV unit will launch this year.

Rumours of Apple’s first television surfaced following the publication of Walter Isaacson’s biography of Steve Jobs back in 2011. In an interview for the book, Jobs claimed he had finally ‘cracked’ how to make an Apple TV work.

In the interview Jobs stated: “I’d like to create an integrated television set that is completely easy to use.” He added: “It would be seamlessly synced with all of your devices and with iCloud. It will have the simplest user interface you could imagine. I finally cracked it.”
