New Apple MacBook offers 20% power boost over 2015 model

Earlier on Tuesday Apple revealed an updated version of its super-sleek 12-inch MacBook range, offering improved processors, graphics and battery life.

Thanks to some early benchmarking tests, we’ve got some real world indications on whether these improvements make a purchase worthwhile for those who held out on last year’s model.

The Verge claims the new-generation Intel Core M Skylake processors will offer a 20 per cent power boost on the original device.

The biggest upswing though comes through the disk write speed, with the new model offering an 80-90 per cent improvement.

An early verdict suggested the latest model would offer a 25 per cent improvement in overall performance.

Whether that’s enough to make lat year’s buyers upgrade is very doubtful, but it may convince those who were concerned enough to skip last year’s.

Apple is also claiming the upgrade will give users an extra hour of power, with 10 hours of web browsing, compared with last year’s 9.

There’s also a new hue to accompany that beautiful Retina Display, with the first Rose Gold MacBook now available.

Of course, it still boasts only one USB Type-C port for charging and connecting accessories, so those married to MagSafe may still be reticent to upgrade.
