New Amazon Fire TV has 4K HDR, Dolby Atmos and an Apple TV-killing price

As well as announcing five new Echo products at a surprise launch event on Wednesday, Amazon revealed a revamped Fire TV device.

The Chromecast-like HDMI dongle supports 4K HDR video (2160p/60fps/HDR10) and Dolby Atmos audio.

The rectangular device, which boasts a much smaller form factor than the most-recent Fire TV box, also ships with the Alexa voice remote.

However, perhaps the best news is the price tag. It’s just £69.99/$69.99 compared to the Apple TV 4K’s starting price of £179/$179.

Amazon will enable users in the US to bundle in an Echo Dot for just $10 extra. We’re not sure whether that offer will carry over to the UK, but we’ll be sure to find out.

Inside the device you’ll find a 1.5GHz quad core processor, 2GB of RAM and 8GB of local storage.

There’s 802.11ac Wi-Fi, as well as Ethernet compatibility through a microUSB adapter.

Naturally, as with the device’s predecessors, there are thousands of Alexa skills you can utilise with the new Fire TV.

Amazon is also promising access to over 500,000 TV shows and movies through the app suite.

It’s already available for pre-order, ahead of an October 25 UK release date.
