Netgear Nighthawk X4S router with fastest processor goes on sale in the UK

Netgear announced that its fastest router yet is now available to buy in the UK.

The Nighthawk X4S router is aimed at those looking for peak performance from their home WiFi network and includes a dual-core 1.4Ghz processor, the fastest in a router, to provide smooth operation for multiple WiFi connected devices.

The Nighthawk X4S supports the latest Wave2 WiFi standard, which doubles the maximum wireless speeds of 802.11ac from 3.47Gbps to 6.93Gbps, as well as Multi-User MIMO-capabilities.

What that means is the Nighthawk X4S is well placed to support multiple devices using Wi-Fi at the same time.

Currently many WiFi routers alternate between sending signal to specific devices – the more devices the slower the whole WiFi connection gets.

The Nighthawk can send a WiFi signal to multiple devices at the same time, keeping the overall bitrate higher.

In addition it can recognize the type of device and use and prioritize bandwidth accordingly.

For example if someone is playing Battlefield 4 on a PC and needs a good ping the Netgear will ensure it does. This should mean that when someone else in the house starts watching BBC iPlayer on an iPhone 6S you wouldn’t experience any death by lag.

It’s also clever enough to recognize specific streaming services.

Youtube is a bandwidth hog as it tries to buffer the whole video. Netflix on the other hand is adaptive and drops the quality to the point of blocky video if it can’t get enough.  The Netgear Nighthawk X4S will ensure both perform well when used in tandem on different devices.

All this performance comes at a price – the Netgear Nighthawk X4S is one of the most expensive home routers you can buy at £269.
