Netflix has begun rolling out a massive overhaul of its core website.
Some users will start seeing large changes from the Netflix’s web service around now. It’s the first such major revamp in around four years.
The new web experience is actually similar to the Netflix apps currently on devices such as the iPad, PS4, and a number of set top boxes.
Of course, it’s entirely handled through a browser, and it’s been optimised to look and handle great on a laptop display. Appropriately enough, Netflix reveals that the idea was to create a web experience that was more like an app than a series of linked web pages.
This means that drilling into a film will display the information in line rather than moving to a separate page. This should speed up navigation considerably, with episode details and review info all appearing in context.
Another neat new feature is that when you hover your mouse pointer over a film or TV series, you’ll see a slideshow of images from the title.

Despite the extra animations this app-like approach involves, Netflix assures us that “it’s an experience that has been built from the ground up to make it faster and easier to discover something great to watch for our millions of members around the world.”
The website is rolling out around the world now, but it may take up to two weeks to reach all Netflix subscribers.
