Netflix’s parental controls will soon let you block specific films and TV shows
Parents are getting greater control over what their children can and can’t watch on Netflix, thanks to a new tool being introduced by the streaming service.
You’ll now be able to hide specific films and TV shows behind a PIN code, a feature that offers far more flexibility than Netflix’s existing PIN protection system, which allows parents to place a blanket blockade on all content at specific maturity levels.

“We understand that every family is different and that parents have differing perspectives on what they feel is appropriate to watch at different ages,” wrote Mike Hastings, a director of enhanced content at Netflix.
The company is also going to start displaying the maturity level rating for a series or film more prominently once you press the Play button, in order to “ensure members are fully aware of the maturity level as they begin watching.” This should help significantly cut down on those awkward surprises mid-way through what you thought was a family-friendly film.
The changes will roll out in the coming months, and Netflix says the new features will be available across a range of devices.
“These latest steps are part of our continuous efforts to keep members better informed, and more in control, of what they and their families choose to watch and enjoy on Netflix,” Hastings added.
