When the nominations for the Golden Globes awards were announced in December, many were ready to pronounce a changing of the televisual guard.
With a whopping 8 nominations for shows like Orange is the New Black and House of Cards, Netflix led the way, even over crown jewel cable networks HBO and Showtime.
Sadly for Ted Sarandos’ disruptive company, not a single one of those nominations were converted into a Golden Globe statue.
Even more galling for Netflix, which has invested hundreds of millions in its first run content, rival Amazon picked up a couple of gongs at the event.
The Mr Robot show, which is an Amazon exclusive in the UK, also won the award for Best Drama Series, although it was produced for USA Network in the United States.
In other tech-related news, Aaron Sorkin (Screenwriting) and Kate Winslet (Best Supporting Actress) won Golden Globe awards for their roles in the Steve Jobs biopic.
Does the awards snub means Netflix still has a way to go for its programming to be considered among the best on television?
Perhaps the streaming pioneer will fare better next year? If the first trailer for House of Cards Season 4 is anything to go by, they’ll certainly be back in the running.
Meanwhile, it’s a shame there’s no longer a Best Documentary category because, you know, Making a Murderer and all that.
