Electronic Arts recently registered a trademark for Need for Speed Arena, hinting at the next entry in the popular racing series.
Filed with The European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), the trademark appears to be for a new title known as Need for Speed Arena.
The application page reveals the trademark to have been submitted on November 7, so it could still be in the early stages of development.
According to the listing, Need For Speed Arena falls under both “downloadable computer game software” and “video-game software”, so it’s safe to say a sequel is in the works.

The last game in the racing franchise, known simply as Need for Speed, launched for PS4, Xbox One and PC in October 2015.
It received a relatively lukewarm reception, failing to capture to imagination of players with its cheesy live-action cutscenes and underwhelming progression system.
Need for Speed Arena could place a purely multiplayer focus on the formula, if the name is anything to go by. Either that, or we’ve got a gnarly destruction derby on our hands.
