In actual fact, My Xbox Live was released for iPhone last month, and was designed primarily with Windows Phone in mind. Now the iOS version has been updated to work with the iPad, which seems like a more natural fit in our view.
Through the app you can navigate through content on the Xbox dashboard, launch videos and games and generally treat the tablet as a very expensive control pad. At first glance it’s almost like a rather spooky preview of the Microsoft Surface.
Talking of surface, the Xbox 360’s bright and distinctly Windows 8-esque Metro interface is only represented on the iPad app in a rather shallow fashion. Once you really get into things you’ll have to use some rather crude virtual buttons.
Still, the app is an undoubtedly quick way to jump back into the most recent game or video you were playing, as well as to bring up detailed information on it. We particularly like the Discover feature, which is a great way to browse and initiate new content on your Xbox 360 console.
And of course you can see which of your friends are online and even edit your avatar through that sharp 9.7-inch screen.
To top it all off, the My Xbox Live app is available to download for free.
