MSI is first of the blocks to announce nForce 4 motherboards including goodies such as SLI support and enhanced RAID.
Following the nVidia’s nForce4 launch on Tuesday, MSI has announced full details of its new nForce 4 motherboards. The MSI K8N Diamond and K8N Neo4 Platinum offer PCI Express x16 graphics slots and the new SATA2 interface offering data speeds of up to 3GB/s, over three times the speed of SATA1. NVRAID 2.0 meanwhile can be configured so that the disk array works across SATA and EIDE hard disk as a single RAID. The K8N Diamond features two configurable PCI Express slots, enabling nVidia cards to be used in dual-card, super-performance enhancing SLI configuration.
MSI has also added a Silicon Image RAID controller offering two additional SATA2 ports on the K8N Diamond and RAID 5 functionality on the K8N Neo4 Platinum. Other MSI specific technology includes its CoreCell D.O.T ((Dynamic Overclocking Technology) and a Communication Slot – the unusual looking orange coloured slot on its boards. For this MSI has developed a proprietary Dual-Net card, which combines 802.11g wireless and Bluetooth, helping the PC to free itself from wired tyranny.
To accompany the Communication Slot MSI has developed software called DigiCell, enabling users to start-up the access point and gateway in just two clicks. The software also enables the card to be set up as a standard wireless card, in Gateway mode, and as an access point, so it can join up a number of wireless systems. This save users the cost of buying a separate access point, though for this to work you’ll have to leave your PC on.
