What more could you ask for?
I’m not the most enthusiastic reporter of motherboards – partly because they confuse me more than I’d like to admit – but these new models from MSI deserve a mention.
The new P6N range is composed of the P6N Diamond, based on the nVidia 680i chipset, and the P6N SLI Platinum (above), based on the nVidia 650i chipset. Both boards support the brand spanking new quad core Intel QX6700 Extreme processor and are Vista Premium certified by Microsoft.
As the names suggest the Diamond edition has the performance edge over its stable mate supporting a 1,333MHz FSB and 1,000MHz DDR2 RAM while the Platinum edition supports a 1,066MHz FSB and 800MHz DDR2 RAM. Both however provide full overclocking capabilities with the option to take the FSB to 2,000MHz and RAM to 1,200MHz (should you have the pre-requisite zero degrees Kelvin cooling solution)
Graphics is a similar story since although the Platinum has two PCI-E slots to support SLI gaming and either PCI-E 16x or 2x PCI-E 8x, the Diamond has two 16x and one 8x PCI-E slots. Furthermore this thoroughbred has 7.1 surround audio using the Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme. Both mobos include the eSATA solution with power on instant backup technology and RAID support.
Both mobos are expected to be released in December though pricing remains somewhat of a mystery. Less sleuth-worthy though is which other MSI motherboards will support the Intel QX6700 Extreme CPU after the company announced a full compatibility list as follows:
*975X Platinum PowerUp Edition
*P6N Diamond (NVIDIA 680i Chipset)
*P6N SLI Platinum (NVIDIA 650i Chipset)
If you have one of these you are officially a lucky (s)bugger(/s) bunny…
