Motorola: Users happy to charge Moto 360 nightly

Despite widespread and well voiced concerns over the device’s battery life, Motorola has claimed consumers are ‘happy’ to charge the Moto 360 smartwatch nightly.

Still one of the biggest stumbling blocks for many wearables, the Moto 360’s limited battery life means nightly trips to the charging dock are required. According to Motorola, however, this isn’t a problem.

“It is clear that this is a watch and it gives you a full day of battery so it’s like other watches,” Christoph Janeba, Motorola’s International Portfolio Director said speaking with TrustedReviews recently.

Discussing the device’s staying power, he added: “Yeah, I think people will be happy charging it every night.

With rivals such as the LG G Watch and Samsung Gear Live being criticised for their two to three day battery lives, the Moto 360 – a device praised for its round design – is lagging behind the already limited competition in this crucial area.

Motorola, perhaps ignorant to the user concerns, is insistent that the 360’s wireless charging options make this need for nightly charging more manageable.

“Of course a week’s battery would be better, but we haven’t built in a plug where when you get home, like with your smartphone, you have to plug it in to charge,” Janeba said.

He added: “What we’ve done is build a cradle where you can put the device in during the night. When you take your watch off over night, you put it in the cradle next to your bed and within two hours it’s fully charged. This rhythm will be quite natural for users.”

This ‘natural rhythm’ was echoed by Simon Collinson, Motorola’s General Manager of International Markets.

“Charging nightly is quite a natural user occasion,” he claimed.

“It is a user case that consumers recognise and are comfortable with and that’s where we think it makes sense as part of your daily routine.”
