A new and never-before-seen version of the Moto Z could be waiting in the wings, if this latest leak is to be believed.
Images of a handset purportedly dubbed the Motorola Moto Z Play have turned up on Instagram and Reddit, suggesting that a new smartphone launch could be imminent. The smartphone, which looks fairly finished, appears in two colour options: white and dark blue/black. It’s also fair to say that the phone looks very much like the existing Moto Z.
This leak comes just days after another Moto Z Play leak, which depicted the phone in black. We’ve also seen this phone pass through China’s TENAA regulatory agency – the local equivalent of the FCC – which revealed the following specs: 5.5-inch Full HD AMOLED display, Snapdragon 625 chip, Adreno 506 GPU, 3GB of RAM, 64GB storage, 16-megapixel primary camera, 5-megapixel secondary camera, 6.99mm profile, and a battery capacity of either 3,300mAh or 3,510mAh.
These specs mark the Moto Z Play as an assured mid-range handset, which gels with last year’s Moto X Play release. Unfortunately, we’ve got no idea when the Moto Z Play will launch (perhaps IFA 2016?). It’s also worth taking all leaks like this with due caution, as they’re difficult to verify.
The Moto Z is a new series of smartphone first introduced by Lenovo-owned Motorola this year at a June 9 launch event. It’s the flagship model for 2016, and is made unique by its Motomods system, whereby case accessories can be magnetically clamped onto the device to add new features.
