Motorola Moto X smartphone to be formally unveiled on August 1

The Motorola Moto X release date will be formally announced on August 1 as Motorola issues invites to the heavily rumoured phone’s official launch event.

Following weeks of endless rumours and countless leaks, Motorola has revealed that the eagerly awaited Moto X phone is set to enter the realms of reality in a matter of days as a launch event is scheduled to be held in New York City on August 1.

Adorned by a group of trendy looking ladies, the Motorola Moto X launch invite is simply emblazoned by the tilte ‘Moto X’ alongside that August 1 unveil date, New York location and an RSVP link. Within the image, two of the woman can be seen holding a mysterious handset, one in black the other in white.

Earlier this week it was suggested that the Motorola Moto X release date would see the phone enter retailers on August 26. Last week Google’s Eric Schmidt was photographed using a phone believed to be the currently unconfirmed Moto X.

Far from the only high-profile handset on the verge of becoming official, the Motorola Moto X will be unveiled less than a week before the LG G2. LG’s Samsung Galaxy S4 and HTC One rival will be officially announced at its own New York based launch event on August 7.

Recent Motorola Moto X rumours have pegged the American company’s return to the smartphone scene to be something of a mid-market effort. It has been claimed the phone will run a 1.7GHz dual-core processor, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage.

Expected to play host to a 720p HD display somewhere between 4.3-inches and 4.7-inches in size, the Moto X specs sheet is believed to see Google’s Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean OS feature from the box alongside a 10-megapixel rear-mounted camera, integrated NFC and 4G LTE connectivity options. A second, 2-megapixel snapper up front and a 1500mAH Lithium-Ion battery have also been tipped for inclusion.
