Motorola Moto E unveiled as £89 budget offering

Motorola has expanded its budget smartphone lineup as the Motorola Moto E is formally unveiled with a minimalist £89 price tag.

The first handset to come from the handset giant since its acquisition by Lenovo, the Motorola Moto E joins the hugely popular Motorola Moto G in offering mid-range specs at an affordable price tag.

Performance should never be sacrificed because you want an affordable phone,” Cathay Bi, Motorola’s Director of Product Marketing said in unveiling the handset.

Suggesting that the Moto E is “made to last, but priced for all,” she added: “Moto E really is the full package.”

Motorola Moto E Features

With the Moto G jumping to a £149 price tag as a result of adding 4G connectivity, the Motorola Moto E marks the manufacturer’s new entry level option.

Running a 4.3-inch display, the affordable Moto E boasts a 960 x 540 pixel resolution and a 256 pixels-per-inch image density.

Although this will not trouble the high-end likes of the Samsung Galaxy S5 and HTC One M8, going head-to-head with comparably priced products, the Moto E leads the budget smartphone race.

Further Motorola Moto E specs include a a 1.2GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 1GB of RAM and microSD expandable storage. A 5-megapixel camera sits on the device’s rear.

The handset adds a 1900mAh Lithium-Ion battery for improved staying power over the entry-level rivals, such as the Samsung Galaxy Fame.

With interchangeable rear panels, the Moto E is set to be available in nine different colours, from the standard black and white to more daring purple, red, yellow and pink hues. Blue and green models will also be available.

About more than just the hardware push, the Moto E features some impressive software offerings, too. The manufacturer has guaranteed the handset will receive an upgrade to the next major Android update and fitted it with Motorola Alert software, the new personal tracking and alert package.

Motorola Moto E Release Date and Price

Set to hit British retailers in the coming days, Bi revealed: “Starting this week the Moto E will be available in the UK, unlocked for just £89.”
