Motorola Moto 360 2 may be headed for early 2015 launch

Motorola may have its second Moto 360 smartwatch, the Moto 360 2, ready for early next year, complete with an improved design.

The original Moto 360 only hit shops in recent months, but talk is already turning to the next iteration. Given that it took a scarcely believable six months to get from announcement to release, and the resultant sense of disappointment with the final product, talk of a follow-up doesn’t seem quite so premature.

That’s especially so when you consider that the source of this new piece of information is a Lenovo executive. Lenovo, of course, now owns Motorola after picking it up from Google earlier in the year.

Speaking in Russia (via Redroid), Lenovo executive Gleb Mishin spoke briefly of a second generation Motorola smartwatch with a “modified design.”

Mishin also revealed that the next Moto 360 – rumoured as the Moto 360 2 – would be “more beautiful and more like a clock,” though it should be noted that his comments come through the filter of Google Translate, so any assumptions over his intended meaning may be off.

Perhaps Motorola has added more watch-like detail to the new Moto 360, rather than going the all-screen approach of the original. Or perhaps it has found a way to make the display perfectly round rather than having to stick with the flat tire look of the first Moto 360.

With Motorola devices set to go on sale in Russia in early 2015, it appears as if Mishin was suggesting that the new Moto 360 will be available around that time. We’ll have to wait to get some more solid confirmation of these points, but it appears Motorola isn’t going to be hanging around like it did with the first Moto 360 launch.
