Motorola: ‘Momentum is everything in the smartphone space and we have it’

Motorola has suggested that ‘momentum is everything in the smartphone space’, adding that it is currently on something of a roll.

Having today added the Motorola Moto E to its recent Moto G and Moto X offerings, the now Lenovo owned manufacturer has claimed that following a couple of years out in the smartphone wilderness, a roll of success is bringing it back into contention.

“Momentum really is everything in this space and we feel like we’ve got a fair bit of it,” Steve Horowitz, Motorola’s Senior VP of Software Engineering said while speaking at the launch of the Moto E. “The Moto X and Moto G have really helped put Motorola back on the map.”

With the Moto E sporting an £89 price tag, Motorola has committed to further enhancing the lower ends of the smartphone market, a space in which it has seen big success over the past 12 months.

Having last year introduced the Moto G, a near mid-specced handset with a firmly budget price tag, with one handset Motorola refound its feet.

“The Moto G is the best-selling smartphone in the history of Motorola, and that all happened in just five months’ time,” Horowitz stated.

He added: “In Q1 of this year, we had 61 per cent growth over last year’s Q1 sales. This is over twice the industry average.

“Looking at the UK we have gone from zero to 6 per cent market share since the launch of Moto G and we are currently over 17 per cent of the prepaid smartphone market in the UK.”

Addressing the company’s wider successes, the Motorola VP stated: “Our growth and business momentum has already really picked up significantly.

“On the world stage we now have availability with our products in over 44 countries around the world.”
