Motorola has made a 64GB version of its popular Moto X smartphone available to purchase in the US.
The Motorola Moto X launched in the US in August 2013, before finally making its way over to the UK at the beginning of February.
It marked an unusually shift in emphasis away from simple spec-based one-upmanship and towards genuinely useful and innovative features such as always-on voice recognition.
Now Motorola has launched a new model of the Moto X with 64GB of internal storage on board. That’s double the storage of the previous top model.
One of the very few criticisms of the Moto X was its lack of microSD expansion support, so cramming in more fixed storage like this is an easy fix.
What’s more, the $449 price of this 64GB version is just $100 more than the entry-level 16GB edition. If that still sounds a little steep to you, Motorola also launched a new try before you buy initiative to accompany the new model.
This allows for a $0.01 deposit, which would enable you to use the ‘Moto Maker’ feature (still US-only) to customise the look of the phone and have the handset sent to you. You could then opt to pay for the phone or send it back.
As you might expect from such an unusually generous offer, the deal has already reached its full allocation. Was this just a sales initiative aimed at shifting old stock following Lenovo’s purchase and inevitable reshaping of the company? We’re not sure.
We’re also not sure if Motorola will ever bring this 64GB model over to the UK and Europe. Fingers crossed, eh?
