Moto reveals which of its phones will get Android 6.0 Marshmallow

In a blog post on Friday, Motorola has revealed which of its smartphones are in line for the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update.

The new operating system will begin rolling out on Nexus devices next week – one of which is Motorola’s Nexus 6. However, once Google has got its own-branded devices out of the way but Moto is often first in line to bring its handsets up to speed.

Moto isn’t announcing timetables yet, with the company claiming it won’t rush out the updates, but the confirmed devices as as follows:

  • 2015 Moto X Pure Edition (3rd gen)
  • 2015 Moto X Style (3rd gen)
  • 2015 Moto X Play
  • 2015 Moto G (3rd gen)
  • 2014 Moto X Pure Edition in the US (2nd gen)
  • 2014 Moto X in Latin America, Europe and Asia2 (2nd gen)
  • 2014 Moto G and Moto G with 4G LTE2 (2nd gen)
  • DROID Turbo

“We’ll work fast but we won’t push the upgrades out until we know they’re ready,” wrote Moto’s VP of software product management Bjorn Kilburn. “Look for more news on timing in the coming weeks.”

Moto is often able to get a jump start on the likes of Samsung, LG and HTC as its phones don’t rely on a custom user interface. The pure Android experience with the odd Moto tweak makes testing the updates a much simpler process.
